FAD: What is the philosophy behind your brand?
Tyler: Henry Green Leather was born out of a desire to fill a gap in the market for quality leather accessories that are practical, elegant and compact. Our timeless designs and fastidious attention to detail set us apart from other brands on the market.
FAD: What inspires you to create?
Tyler: I am inspired by the elegance of functional minimalism and I enjoy products that serve to streamline and simplify a consumer’s daily life. It is with this mindset that we set out to create the goods of Henry Green Leather. For example, the Westie Cord Taco is a snappy solution for unruly wires while the Husky Passport Wallet was created to be the only wallet you would need to take with you while traveling.
FAD: Everyone at FAD Market is smitten with your adorable corgi Estelle. Tell us more about her and how she became the company's logo.
Tyler: Some years back, I rescued Estelle from a bad situation and nursed her back to health. In the process, I fell in love with her ever smiling personality. She’s been a huge part of my life ever since, so when I established the company, there was no question in my mind that she would feature prominently. I named my first product the Corgi Wallet, after Estelle and the inspiration to name all our products after dogs derived from that.
FAD: We love that your products are handcrafted in Brooklyn. Could you tell us more about the handcrafting process for Henry Green Leather goods?
Tyler: The quality of our raw materials is crucial to us. Our leather is sourced from two of America’s oldest tanneries, Horween Leather in Chicago and Wickett & Craig in Pennsylvania. I personally handcraft each item in my workshop right here in Bed-Stuy.
FAD: We're celebrating Brooklyn-based brands. Tell us one thing you love most about Brooklyn.
Tyler: I’m constantly amazed by how every individual neighborhood in Brooklyn has its own distinct identity, culture and vibe. I can't imagine myself living anywhere else in the world.
