John McFadden born New Jersey 1979 lives and works in NY
Thorough examination of the repetitive patterning found on the upholstery fabrics and wallpaper that haunts the backyards and interiors of the American suburbs is the heart of my painting. In the form of abstract painting, the work is my exploration of life in the margins of middle class America and the dark side suburban American values. Focused on abstract painting processes, such as gestural abstraction, I see the medium of painting as one of the ways a generally overlooked subject matter can manifest itself. My ultimate goal is to simultaneously celebrate and deface the subject material.
